Associate Director
Thousand Islands Playhouse
September 2015
I was pleased to work on this unique Canadian musical, as a part of my role as the Associate Artistic Director at the Thousand Islands Playhouse in Gananoque, Ontario. Told using this songs of Fred Eaglesmith, Dear Johnny Deere is a musical about the challenges of a contemporary rural life, and the power of love to overcome those challenges. Often called the Bruce Springsteen of rural Ontario, Juno Award-winning Fred Eaglesmith’s fun and evocative country songs have been masterfully woven into this foot-stompin’ musical, and all the actors play instruments throughout the show. The incorporation of instruments into performance was a new challenge, and one that I really enjoyed seeing Ashlie work out in her staging.
